Ever wondered what goes on in the capital when everyone’s ‘home for the holidays’? Not much, it turns out…

PEOPLE HAVE BEEN driving home for Christmas all day — and whether it’s just to the Dublin suburbs, or further afield, by this evening the city will really begin to empty ahead of tomorrow’s big shut-down.

TheJournal.ie reader Remy Connolly was up early last Christmas, and decided to head into the city with a camera to “see what was going on”.

Aside from the occasional distant human figure, the normally bustling streets around Dublin 2 were more-or-less deserted.

It made for some pretty interesting photos:
