Liverpool complete transfer of German midfielder Emre Can

The 20-year-old midfielder joins from Bayer Leverkusen for a £10 million fee.

LIVERPOOL HAVE COMPLETED their third signing of the summer with the arrival of midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 20-year-old German joins for a fee believed to be just under £10 million, following former Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana into the Premier League club.

A deal had been agreed in principal with Leverkusen last month, although the necessary documentation was only signed and finalised this week.

Can, who made 29 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, unsurprisingly confirmed that he is pleased to be joining Brendan Rodgers’ squad ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

“I am proud to be a part of the family and I am looking forward to playing here. I will give it my best,” said the Germany U21 international.

LFC is a great club and the fans are amongst the best in the world. I am looking forward to the first game and can’t wait to step on the pitch for the first time at Anfield.”

Can’s Turkish roots mean he could line out for the Turkey senior national team, although having been born in Frankfurt, he has previously spoken of a desire to continue playing for Germany.

Can has the versatility to play across the midfield and impressed in his seven Champions League appearances for Leverkusen last season. The 6′ 1″ player only joined Leverkusen from Bayern Munich last summer, but Liverpool activated the release clause in what was a four-year contract.
