HERE ARE THE things you need to know as we round off the day in three easy steps.

THINGS WE LEARNED

#CHILD SEX ABUSE: The State should monitor all Catholic dioceses closely until there has been a “substantial” improvement in child protection practices – that’s according to an audit of the Catholic Church in Ireland carried out by the HSE.

#JOBSWATCH: Bookmakers Paddy Power is to create 600 new jobs in Dublin over the next three years.

#CHILDCARE: Around 3,300 childcare facilities around the country are to be asked to start displaying their prices in a bid to bring  some transparency into the  sector.

#NOBEL: Chinese author Mo Yan has won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

#CROKE PARK: Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin is considering incorporating public sector allowances into core pay.

#FACEBOOK: Facebook avoided paying higher corporation taxes in Britain last year – by attributing most of its UK revenues to Ireland.

THINGS WE LOVED

  • Here are police officers in South Korea doing the Gangnam Style dance in the stands ahead of the Korean Grand Prix for no apparent reason:

  • Loud cheers and tobacco spits for Eamon McElwee who had this entry for our Leo Varadkar-themed caption competition today:

THINGS WE SHARED

  • How much does this 16th century painting look like Christopher Walken? A lot. It looks a LOT like him.
  • It can be good to know you’ve got a big sister looking out for you, even if you don’t want to hear the advice. Here’s a kid telling her two-year-old brother that he needs to toughen up a bit:
