FACEBOOK HAS ENABLED its safety check in feature for Storm Ophelia.

The button has become something of a hallmark of crises abroad, notably terror-related incidents, with people using it to let their loved ones know that they’re ok.

The button, which can be accessed via the Crisis Response section of either your Facebook app or the desktop site, has been turned live in tandem with a section of Facebook called Community Help, which sees people in trouble appealing to others in their locality to lend assistance, or to offer help.

A spokesperson for Facebook said that the button had been activated in response to the storm.

“Safety Check is a simple and easy way to say you’re safe and check on others during and after a disaster or crisis,” they said.
