Two pedestrians killed following crashes in Meath, Galway

A 77-year-old man was hit by a car in Athboy, and a pedestrian aged 65 was struck and killed on the Galway to Carraroe Road.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE died following road crashes in counties Galway and Meath last evening.

The first crash happened at around 6.15pm on the main street of Athboy in Meath. A 77-year-old man was hit by a car.

He was pronounced dead later at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan. A post-mortem is due to be carried out later today. The driver and sole occupant of the car was uninjured.

In Co. Galway, a 65-year-old man was struck by a car while attempting to cross the road at Tully Church on the Galway to Carraroe Road at around 6.20pm last night.

A post mortem on the man’s body is to be scheduled for Galway University Hospital. The driver of the car was not injured.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to both incidents to get in contact.
