DUBLIN FIRE BRIGADE members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action.

The workers were balloted on the action over the last month, with 81% of the roughly 800 members voting.

In total, 93% of those balloted voted in favour of the strike, with 97% in favour of some form of industrial action.

The issue revolves around what members feel is a lack of ambulance resources.

A letter sent to Siptu members last month seen by TheJournal.ie, refers to a recent Hiqa review that requested Dublin City Council (DCC) “urgently identify and implement measures to address ambulance capacity issues in Dublin”.

The letter described the decision to ballot members on industrial action as “regrettable” but “the only option available”.

SIPTU Sector Organiser, Brendan O’Brien, said: “Our members have given an emphatic mandate to the SIPTU DFB Strike Committee to take whatever industrial measures are required to resist the attempts to break-up the Emergency Medical Service.”
