GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 Five minutes, five stories, five o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #BETHANY HOME: The names of 222 young children who died while in the care of Bethany Home have been publicly released. The document shows that many of the children who died at the Protestant mother and baby home in Dublin were just days, weeks, or months old, and some died of conditions such as malnutrition and syphilis.

2. #REILLYCARE: The Minister for Health has unveiled his plans for Universal Health Insurance. Reilly estimates that, if implemented last year, it would have cost an average of €920.

3. #LEADERS’ QUESTIONS: Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said he “should have been told about the letter” from Commissioner Martin Callinan to the Secretary General of the Department of Justice. The timeline of GardaGate events was the subject of debate once more in the Dáil today.

4. #JOBSWATCH: The number of people on the Live Register dropped for the 21st month in a row. There were 30,000 less people unemployed last month than the same time last year.

5. #RACING: An investigation by garadí into a rally involving 70 modified cars in Co Clare has led to eight arrests. Searches were also carried out at two houses.
