GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 LÉ Aisling controversy, the trial of Eric Locke and Kelvin MacKenzie has left The Sun – it’s the 5 at 5.

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know as you head home for the day.

1. #SAIL AWAY It emerged that the Department of Defence sold off the LÉ Aisling for a fraction of the price it could be worth. It was sold for €110,000 and now has an asking price of €680,000.

2. #CYBERATTACKS: HSE staff were told to turn on their computers when they got to work this morning – but not to log in over hacker fears. Over 200,000 computers worldwide have been hit by the attack.

3. #ON TRIAL: The trial of Eric Locke, accused of murdering Sonia Blount, has heard the accused distrusted women because of taunts he received over a birth defect.

 4. #CYBER ATTACK: The HSE’s computer network will be kept isolated for a further 48 hours, director general Tony O’Brien has said. Yesterday, Europol said the ‘WannaCry2′ ransomware attack had hit more than 200,000 victims and warned the situation could escalate as the working week started.

5. #GONE: Kelvin MacKenzie has left The Sun newspaper after controversy over comments he made about English footballer Ross Barkley. MacKenzie was suspended from the paper last month after writing a column in which he described Barkley as “thick” and compared him to a gorilla.

Comments have been turned off as legal proceedings are ongoing in one or more of the stories.
