Former garda jailed for failing to comply with court

Kevin Glavin failed to convert his rental properties from multi-unit to single dwellings as he had promised the court.

A FORMER GARDA has been given a six-week jail sentence for failing to honour undertakings that he gave to the High Court.

RTÉ reports that Kevin Galvin, of Furry Park Road in Killester, promised the court that he would convert rental properties he owns in Cabra Park and Phibsborough from multi-unit to single dwellings after a fire officer said they were a fire hazard.

Galvin rented out 116 Cabra Park, 73 Cabra Park and a unit to the rear of 41 Phibsborough Road. After the inspection of a fire officer, who said that they were dangerous for human habitation, Galvin was ordered to convert the properties.

However, when a fire safety officer visited the properties last month he concluded that they were still being used as multi-unit dwellings.

Galvin has brought a case to the High Court, challenging his dismissal from An Garda Síochána earlier this year.
