Galway ferry transfer stalled by another delay

The transfer of two passenger ferries onto a cargo ship in Galway Harbour – in order for them to be transferred to Mauritius – has been best by difficulties.

EFFORTS TO LOAD a passenger ferry onto a cargo ship in Galway Harbour – in order to transport it to Mauritius – have been delayed once more.

The lifting of the ferry, the Clann Eagle, has been delayed until midday after attempts to hoist it on deck failed this morning, following two similar failed attempts last week. Another sister ferry, the Clann na nOilean, was successfully placed onto the cargo ship yesterday, RTÉ reports.

The departure of the carrier vessel, the Thor Gitta, is hoped to take place this evening.

“Once the second ferry is onboard, the ‘Thor Gitta’ should be in a position to set sail and we can return to normal levels of operation,” Galway Harbourmaster, Captain Brian Sheridan told the Irish Independent.
