GARDAÍ SEIZED MORE than €1.1 million worth of drugs in two seizures in Dublin yesterday.

Four people are currently in custody.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, Chief Superintendent Michael O’Sullivan said the operations targeted two separate criminal gangs.

He said taking the drugs off the streets will deal a significant blow to both groupings.

The first took place on the N2 in the Finglas area, where two cars were intercepted by gardaí and searched.

A total of €300,000 worth of cannabis was seized and two men, aged 40 and 49, were arrested at the scene.

They are being held at Finglas Garda Station.

Later that day in an unconnected operation, the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau raided a property in the Irishtown area of Dublin 2 at around 4pm.

The search yielded €880,000 worth of heroin, cocaine, cannabis and a quantity of cash.

A man and a woman, both 29, were arrested.

Chief Superintendent O’Sullivan said gardaí are pursuing a “very proactive strategy” against organised criminal gangs, “chipping away” at the networks.

There certainly will be more seizures and more arrests.

He also praised the local communities who came forward with information that led to the seizures.

O’Sullivan said that lives have been saved this week by these two seizures along with the the discovery of guns along with heroin and cocaine in Tallaght.
