Garda in hospital after being assaulted on duty

The attack happened last night in Kimmage in Dublin.

A MEMBER OF the gardaí is in hospital today after being assaulted while on duty.

The detective garda, who is based out of Sundrive Road station, is believed to have been walking near Ravensdale Park in Kimmage last night when he spotted suspicious activity. When he went to investigate, he was assaulted by at least one man.

He was later found by colleagues in a distressed state near the park and taken to St James’s Hospital. He was not carrying a weapon at the time of the attack.

Gardaí confirmed that a member of the force had been assaulted in the area and was recovering in hospital from non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí at Sundrive Road are investigating and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with any information is asked to contact 01-666 6600.
