Garda deliberately knocked down in Waterford car chase

A man was arrested shortly after the incident.

A MAN IN Waterford is being held on suspicion of endangerment after knocking down a member of An Garda Síochána in Waterford yesterday.

The incident occurred at about 4pm in the Lismore area of the city where gardaí were performing routine patrols.

They identified a vehicle that may have been involved in a number of incidents in the local area recently.

A male member of the force tried to halt the car but the driver did not stop. The garda, who is in his 40s, was hit and fell to the ground.

He was taken to University Waterford Hospital for treatment but has since been released with minor injuries.

The 21-year-old man driving the car was pursued by gardaí and arrested. He is being detained at a Waterford garda station, questioned on suspicion of endangerment and other offences.
