Poll: Do you think gardaí should be used to interview social welfare claimants?

One woman said it made her feel “like a criminal”.

GARDAÍ ARE SITTING in on some interviews with people claiming social welfare as part of efforts to root out potential overpayments or fraud.

One woman was reported in the Limerick Post as saying “she felt like a criminal” when a plain clothes guard warned her she could be prosecuted for failing to disclose any relevant information during her review.

Anti-Austerity Alliance councillor Cian Prendiville described the move as an “absolute disgrace” which amounts to “interrogation and “intimidation” of unemployed people.

So today we’re asking,  Do you think gardaí should be used to interview social welfare claimants?
