Gardaí appeal for witnesses to fatal Longford collision

One man was killed and two others were seriously injured in the three vehicle collision yesterday evening.

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING A fatal collision on the N5 between Longford and Tarmonbarry yesterday are seeking witnesses to the incident which involved three vehicles.

They would particularly like to speak to the driver of a cattle truck who was first on the scene and may have witnessed the crash. Gardaí said this person was not involved in the collision.

The incident occurred at 5pm yesterday evening at Lissanurlan in Co Longford. Three men, the occupants of one car, were removed to Mullingar Hospital. A 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital and the other two, one in his 20s and the other in his 40s, are described as having serious injuries.

The drivers of the other cars were treated for minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The road at the scene of the crash will be closed from 4.00pm until 6.00 pm this evening to facilitate Garda forensic collision investigators carry out an examination of the area.
