Gardaí find explosives in Cork quarry

Gardai in Midleton carried out a search at a disused quarry on the outskirts of Midleton this afternoon – and found ‘old type’ explosives.

GARDA INVESTIGATING THE theft of metal discovered explosives in a quarry in Cork today.

As part of an ongoing investigation into the theft of metal in the Cork North Garda Division, gardaí in Midleton carried out a search at a disused quarry on the outskirts of Midleton this afternoon.

During the course of this search, Gardai recovered a small quantity of ‘old type’ commercial explosives.

After they were found, the area was made safe by the army EOD team from Collins Barracks in Cork.

Investigations into the findings are continuing.
