GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses to an incident which saw a man knocked unconscious on St Patrick’s Day.

A video of the incident has been widely shared across social media, though gardaí have asked it not be published by media.

It appears to show a group of youths attacking a man who is prone on the ground, though the context of the violence is not given.

Gardaí confirmed to TheJournal.ie that the incident, which happened at around 3pm on St Patrick’s Day, was being investigated as affray.

“Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda Station are investigating an incident of affray which occurred at around 3pm at Aston Quay on March 17.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01-666 9000.”

Gardaí said that they could not comment on the video or if it had been sent to them.

This afternoon, the Garda Traffic Twitter account confirmed that the two young men involved had been identified, but said that speculation online wouldn’t help the investigation.
