Gardaí seek witnesses to robbery at Castleblayney jewellery shop

Diamonds and gold jewellery were stolen after a Co Monaghan jeweller was pepper-sprayed during a raid yesterday morning.

GARDAÍ IN County Monaghan have issued an appeal for information on a robbery at a jewellery shop in Castleblayney yesterday, in which a large quantity of gold and diamond jewellery was stolen.

The shop on the town’s Main Street was raided at 11:53am yesterday morning when three males entered and became involved in a physical struggle with the owner.

One of the culprits pepper-sprayed the owner during the attack.

The men then smashed display cases at the shop with a hammer, seizing diamonds and gold jewellery, before escaping in a black Citroen Saxo bearing the registration number 00 D 67315 in the direction of the Keady Road.

The scene was preserved for a full technical examination which has since been concluded.
