FORGET THE IMF, we may very well be sitting on a literal goldmine after Connemara Mining recorded positive results for gold on the Wicklow-Wexford border.

In a statement released today, the firm said that the airborne magnetic, electromagnetic and radiometric survey undertaken by Canadian company Hendrick Resources in May “has produced encouraging results”.

The survey was carried out as part of an ongoing exploration by the Irish mining company which has been searching for gold in the region.

Connemara Mining announced its joint venture with the Canadian exploration company back in February to mine for gold in Ireland after tests around the Tombreen and Knocklaour regions found significant amounts of gold in the rocks and rivers.

John Teeling, Chairman of Connemara Mining said new areas have now been identified near Carnew and north east of Clohamon.

He added, “It is very early days in this exploration but the results are very encouraging.”
