Ambulance comes under attack during a chaotic night for emergency services

DFB’s control centre processed a total of 700 calls.

IT WAS BY far the busiest night of the year for emergency services in Dublin last night as they received hundreds of calls and tackled almost 200 fires.

During one incident a Dublin Fire Brigade ambulance came under attack in Kilbarrack.

One of its windows was shattered by a bottle while the crew were treating a patient.

No one was injured in the incident, and the ambulance was back on the road later that night.

DFB’s control centre processed a total of 700 calls between 4pm last night and 8am this morning, including 193 small fires or bonfires.

This ranged from a fire near electrical cables in the East Wall area to a playground alight in Stepaside.

There was also 280 ambulance calls.

Fire services also battled 19 house fires and dealt with 26 reports of  unconscious people.

Earlier in the evening DFB said they received a 999 call every 40 seconds.

Elsewhere in the country was less chaotic than Dublin.

RTÉ News reports that control rooms covering the north-west, west, and south of the country reported a quiet night.
