Police investigate after man attacked by gang with hammers

The man was allegedly attacked on Friendly Street.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland are investigating after a man was reportedly assaulted by a group of men with hammers during the weekend.

Detectives in Belfast said that at about 3 pm on Sunday they received a report that a man in his 20s was attacked by a group of men on Friendly Street.

The men allegedly brandished hammers during the attack, police said.

The man was taken to hospital following the incident and his injuries ar not believed to be life-threatening.

Detectives are appealing to anyone in Northern Ireland who may have witnessed this incident to contact them on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 773 04/12/16.

Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
