EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door.

1. #THE HANDSHAKE: In a historic and symbolic moment in the history of Anglo-Irish relations the Queen has shaken hands with the former senior IRA member Martin McGuinness in Belfast today. Queen Elizabeth shook hands with the Deputy First Minister not once but twice, on the second occasion in public. We’ve been analysing the body language of this landmark moment.

2. #FRED FORSEY: A former Dungarvan Town councillor has been sentenced to six years in prison after he was found guilty of accepting bribes of €80,000 from developers. The judge in the case of Fred Forsey said that he had “gravely breached the trust of the people of Dungarvan”. Forsey’s girlfriend broke down in tears as he was led away from the court following the sentence.

3. #BONDHOLDERS: The €1.1 billion being paid to senior unsecured bondholders in four bond payments this week has been described as a con job by the Independent TD Stephen Donnelly. He called for the government to stop the payment and instead restore rehabilitative care services for disabled children with the money.

4. #TRANSPORT: A new mobile phone app and website have been launched to help people plan their journey around Ireland. The Transport for Ireland website allow users to plan their journeys using 120 operators of bus, rail, ferry and taxi services. The website and an Android app are currently operable but the iPhone app is not yet available which makes it all the more puzzling that there was a Minister with a giant iPhone launching it today.

5. #COMPLAINTS: A selection of TV, radio, internet and outdoor ads have been found to be in breach of the advertising code by the Advertising Standards Authority today. Words and phrases such as MILF, spanking and ‘a post lent hangover‘ were criticised by the ASAI in a report today. Lots of other interesting ads were scrutinised as well.
