THE REVENUE’S SNIFFER dog, Harvey has uncovered €10,560 of tobacco and €55,000 in cash in a house raid in the East Cork area.
Harvey uncovered the 30 kilograms of ‘Amber Leaf’ and ‘Samson’ roll your own tobacco which could have had a potential loss of to the exchequer of €8,342.
The tobacco and cash was detained under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2005.
House raid
The house raid was a follow up to a large seizure made by the officers of the Revenue’s Customs Service and the gardaí last night.
A further 60,000 unstamped cigarettes were seized . The ‘Capital’, ‘Elite Gold’ and ‘Walton’ brand cigarettes have a retail value of approximately €28,000 with a potential loss to the exchequer of €23,000.
When combined with the value of the tobacco seizure, the total retail value of the seizure was €38,560 and potential loss to the exchequer of €31,342.
A saloon car was also seized from an Irish national in the Watergrasshill area of County Cork.
