HEALTH WATCHDOG, THE Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), will today publish a report into the quality, safety and governance of care at Tallaght Hospital.
The report will come on foot of an investigation that was undertaken last year after concerns about patients in the hospital’s Emergency Department.
The hospital’s board is considering the report this morning and it will be published at 11am this morning.
‘The Report of the investigation into the quality, safety and governance of the care provided by the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, Dublin incorporating the National Children’s Hospital (AMNCH) for patients who require acute admission’, to give it it’s full title, is expected to run to some 300 pages.
The inquiry followed concerns raised by the Dublin city coronoer who said last June that the hospital “sounds like a very dangerous place” for anybody “let alone a sick patient” at the inquest into the death of a 65-year-old man there last March.
Last August, the hospital ended the practice of placing patients who were due to be admitted on trolleys near the Emergency Department as it posed unacceptable risk to patients.
This came following the direction of HIQA which said the management of patient admission posed serious risks to these patients.
