Heavy rains and some local flooding expected this evening

Met Éireann has warned of heavy rains affecting Leinster and parts of Ulster this evening, and motorists have been warned to reduce speed.

HEAVY RAINS ARE to continue until at least 9pm this evening, affecting mainly in eastern countries and creating the possibility of some local flooding, according to Met Éireann.

The meteorological service added that northeast winds will occasionally reach force 6 this evening on all coasts, and has also issue a small craft warning.

Motorists have been warned that driving conditions will be extremely wet this evening and have been strongly advised to reduce speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

Leinster and parts of Ulster are expected to be most badly hit by rain.

AA Roadwatch has advised motorists to allow oncoming traffic to pass first – pointing out that other cars can produce a “bow wave ” which can flood air intake. It also advised motorists to test brakes as soon as possible after entering water.
