A HELICOPTER PILOT had a lucky escape this afternoon, after his aircraft crashed into a field and was almost broken in two in Kinnity, Co Offaly.

According to witnesses at the scene, the small craft hit overhead cables as it was coming in to land next to Kinnity National School, at around 3.40pm.

The pilot – who was the only occupant – was uninjured in the incident, according to a Garda spokesperson.
