Home help and home care workers set to protest against cuts

The Home Care Community Action Group are set to protest outside Government Buildings tonight from 6pm.

THE NEWLY FORMED Home Care Community Action Group are set to protest against the proposed cuts to home help and home care packages.

Set to take place outside Government Buildings at 6pm, the announcement was made by Richard Boyd Barrett TD earlier today.

It came about as a result of a meeting last night between members of People Before Profit and a number of home help and home care workers.

The facilitator for the meeting, John Lyons, told TheJournal.ie that the meeting had been scheduled two weeks in advance, before any of the recent cuts had been announced.

“The feeling amongst the 38 that were in the room was that we should protest today,” he said.

Describing the €130 million that is proposed to be cut, Lyons believes that “for such a small amount of money, it’s going to have a huge effect on services on the ground”.

“There has to be a reversal of these cuts,” Lyons said.
