Hostage situation at south Dublin house ends after woman released unharmed

The man who allegedly held her hostage has left the house this afternoon.

GARDAÍ IN CABINTEELY were called to a house in Ballyogan Green, Dublin 18, today after a woman in her 30s was held hostage by a man in his 40s.

A number of garda units, including negotiators, attended the scene from around 11.20am this morning.

The woman left the house unharmed after a short period of time.

A statement from gardaí said negotiators were in constant contact with the man, who eventually left the house at around 3.30pm.

He was then taken to hospital for treatment.

A replica firearm was recovered from the house.

Gardaí requested a unit of the Defence Forces bomb squad to attend the scene as a precaution.

Pictures from the scene have been shared on social media. In one, seen by TheJournal.ie, armed police can be seen looking into the garden of the house.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Chris Curran welcomed the peaceful end to the incident.

He said: “This type of thing is not the norm in this area and so I am particularly happy to see the community rallying round, looking after each other and ensuring that the gardaí and the army were able to do their jobs without interference.”
