Man in court over hotel raid by masked gang with hammers

Men who raided the hotel in Kildare yesterday morning tied up staff and made off with a sum of money.

A 40-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court this morning charged in connection with an aggravated burglary in Athy, Kildare, yesterday.

Four masked men armed with hammers raided a hotel reception and offices in the early hours of yesterday morning. They tied up two members of staff, ransacked the offices and left with an undisclosed sum of cash.

Three men were later arrested by gardaí in Kill. One of these men, a 40-year-old, was scheduled to appear before Kilkock District Court at 10.30am today charged in connection with the burglary.

The two other men, a 41-year-old and a 28-year-old, were released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public prosecutions.
