Lucid dreaming

Infographic: How to control your dreams

There are ways of training yourself to recognise when you’re dreaming – and control what happens next. Here’s how.

YOU MAY NOT have heard of the idea of ‘lucid dreaming’, but it’s a pretty simple one – it involves training yourself simply to recognise a dream from real life.

That might sound rudimentary, but most of us will admit that no matter how fantastical or unbelievable our dreams, we’re usually totally taken in – not realising until we wake up that the whole thing was a figment of our minds.

The principle behind lucid dreaming is that if you can somehow train yourself to recognise when a dream is a dream, you gain total control of it. Once you’re living in a world entirely of your own creation, you can change anything.

There’s a few different ways of training yourself into it – one popular method is to draw a ? symbol on your hand, and ask yourself ‘Am I dreaming?’ every time you notice it – but the folks at UK-based infographics company Neomam, commissioned by bed seller Bedroom World, have put together this guide to help train you if you’re interested.
