Husband dies and wife seriously injured after late night M50 crash

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

A MAN HAS died and a woman is in a serious condition after the car they were travelling in crashed on the M50 late last night.

It is understood the pair are husband and wife.

Gardaí said the vehicle left the road, hit a lamppost and crash barrier before rolling onto its side.

It happened at 0.45am between Junction 10 Ballymount and Junction 11 Tallaght.

The deceased, a 62-year-old man, was a passenger in the car and died at the scene, while the driver, his 60-year-old wife, was rushed to Tallaght Hospital where her condition is described as critical.

The road was closed for a period while gardaí carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

A post mortem on the man is due to be carried out.
