GARDA MEMORIAL DAY 2012 was held at the Dubhlinn Gardens, Dublin Castle today.
The annual event commemorates members of an Garda SÃochána who have been killed in the line of duty.
A Garda Remembrance Medal was presented to the family of the late Garda Ciarán Jones, who drowned during the heavy flooding of October 2011.
Jones, 25, was attempting to help motorists who had gotten into difficulty in the sudden flooding when he was swept into the River Liffey in Co Wicklow. The Taoiseach, the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner were among the mourners who gathered for his funeral.
