How the Twittersphere reacted to Ireland’s decision to vote Yes in the Fiscal Compact referendum…

AS THE RESULTS from early tallies rolled in and it was clear that Ireland had voted Yes to the Fiscal Compact treaty there was plenty of reaction on Twitter.

From politicians, journalists and ordinary punters there was plenty to be said both humourous and not so humourous. Here’s a quick round up:

Pragmatic it may have been. Patrotic it certainly was not. You FF types need to learn you dont have a monopoly on patriotism.

This is a failing that can be observed in many people, irrespective of their party allegiance. It is absurd to say that spouting unsubstantiated nonsense is limited to FF, FG, Labour, Sf, ULA, etc. it is rather saddening that a mass of people have chosen to bemoan or demean a democratic result rather than discuss what the best next steps should be. For a land that obsesses about its identity, it is depressing that people have so little respect for the wishes of the people. Move on, fight the next battle, stop denying the reality that is the outcome of the last.

  • Wow!!! The rest of the world really are laughing at us now. So much for the fighting Irish. A country of greedy cowards is all that’s left unfortunately.

  • Doubt anyone abroad is laughing, they understand an act of pragmatic patriotism has occured

  • The yes vote was the right choice we are in tough times but I still believe in the eu and this should have being put in place before we all started using the euro you can’t have all different countries using the same currency without regulation. We can’t turn our back on the eu after all it has done for Ireland we still live in one of the best countries in the world and I for one will always be proud of being Irish but also for being european together we stand divided we fall
