Poll: Do you think learning the national anthem should be part of primary school curriculum?

It comes after the Irish hockey team sang the anthem acapella before playing Germany in the Rio Olympics.

THERE HAVE BEEN calls to make learning the national anthem part of the primary school curriculum.

It comes after the Irish hockey team sang the anthem acapella before playing Germany in the Rio Olympics on Tuesday.

Fine Gael Senator Neale Richmond wants learning Amhrán na bhFiann to be included in the primary curriculum, saying:

“With the Olympics in full flow, we are hopeful that Amhrán na bhFiann might be played for some of our athletes if they win a gold medal. However, it is increasingly clear that many Irish people simply do not know the words or tune to Amhrán na bhFiann.”

So we’d like to know, do you think learning the national anthem should be part of primary school curriculum?
