How am I agreeing with him?? that Michael came out with a statement that has been removed or he took down himself, that read “Irish Man should be used loosely” He is a fool, and if you agreed with him than maybe you should take a look at yourself also!!! RIP to the young lad, I met him a few times and he was a fine man.

It was the very first post, by the time I wrote mine it was taken down. I can understand the confusion, and I understand the debate about the headline. I’m pretty sure the journal done this to get a reaction from people and split people’s opinions about the sad loss of a young man.

Why should we be proud of anyone who serves in the British army, or American. I can’t think of a single positive reason for serving in those armys.

My condolences to his friends and family, but why exactly is he someone that we should all be proud of? He’s no more deserving of pride than any other Irish person working abroad, unless of course you know him personally in which case you can claim to be proud of him without needing a reason for doing so.

I’ll field this one; Because he took on a job that involved him directly confronting violent religious extremists who blow up girls’ schools, stone gays to death and cut off women’s noses for leaving abusive in-laws.

Having spent six months putting himself in harm’s way in a totally alien environment, he was killed carrying out a very routine activity back in Wales. That’s noteworthy. When and Irish person is killed in a traffic accident in Australia or a night out in America we hear about it. The real question is why you don’t show up on those threads asking why it’s being reported?

I fully agree, I was just going to post a similar comment, I am sick of seeing Irish people who are soldiers in foreign armies described as Irish soldiers, they are Irish people who are soldiers of the country they enlisted in.

Howard, I’m not criticising this man. Obviously my sympathies go out to his family. Its a tragic loss of life. I’m questioning why the ethics of the British army
