Israeli warplanes strike Hamas base in Gaza

It’s believed the air strike is in retaliation to the shooting dead of an Israeli civilian near the border.

THE ISRAELI MILITARY says it has carried out an air strike in the Gaza Strip in response to the deadly shooting of an Israeli civilian who was working along the border fence.

The shooting prompted Israel to warn it would respond “forcefully”.

Gaza City

The planes fired at a Hamas training facility in the southern Gaza city of Khan Yunis, with two more strikes reported east of Gaza City and another in the centre of the Palestinian enclave.

The military gave no immediate details on the target of the air strike today, and there was no word on casualties.

The military said the Israeli man was shot while he was doing maintenance work on the border fence. Hospital officials later pronounced him dead.

It was the latest in a string of Palestinian attacks on Israeli targets in recent days.
