200 hand letter to gardaí demanding Anglo charges

The letter was handed in by people from the Jail the Bankers protest that took place this evening in Dublin city centre.

TWO HUNDRED PEOPLE handed formal letters to gardaí at Pearse St garda station this evening calling for charges to brought against three Anglo Irish Bank staff.

The letter, as seen by TheJournal.ie, calls for an investigation under section 6(1) of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, which states “a person who dishonestly, with the intention of making a gain for himself or herself or another, or of causing loss to another, by any deception induces another to do or refrain from doing an act is guilty of an offence”.

The letter alleges that there is evidence that there was deliberate deception at play.

It continues that evidence is available in the public domain, Dáil records, promissory notes, bank guarantees, bank reports and the Anglo tapes.

The letter calls for the gardaí to acknowledge the receipt of the complaint and to provide details about any investigation that should take place.

The event was organised via Facebook and saw the protesters marching from Leinster House to Pearse St garda station.

Deputy Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan spoke at the event.

A video from the protest showed a moment of unrest involving some of those present. A garda spokesperson said that there had been no arrests.

Kildare St was closed off to traffic to facilitate the protest, but it has since reopened.
