Hundreds attend funeral of James Nolan in Blessington

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE have attended the funeral of 21-year-old student James Nolan which took place in Blessington in Wicklow this morning.

The student from Blessington died after falling into a river in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz while attending the European Championships.

The body of the 21-year-old was removed from his family home on Sunday evening and brought to the Church of Our Lady on Main Street in Blessington. He was buried this morning in Burgage cemetery in Blessington.

RTE.ie reports that Irish goalkeeper Shay Given and chief executive of the FAI John Delaney were among the mourners.

Hundreds of people from Bydoszcz lined the banks of the river Brda on Thursday to express sympathy with James Nolan’s family and friends.

Ireland captain Robbie Keane paid tribute to the 21-year-old by holding up an LA Galaxy shirt with the words ‘RIP James Nolan’ on the back, after he scored a goal for the team on Saturday.
