Body of James Sheehan formally identified

The body was recovered from the Avoca river in Wicklow yesterday.

GARDAÍ HAVE CONFIRMED that the body recovered from the Avoca river in Co Wicklow yesterday is that of James Sheehan who had been missing since Sunday.

The 18-year-old went missing in the early hours of Sunday morning after a night out with friends.

Following a five day search, a body was recovered from the Avoca river in Arklow yesterday and it has now been formally identified as that of Sheehan.

Gardaí had already thanked the Boyne Fishermen River Rescue, who located the body, as well as the Garda Water Unit, Civil Defence and the local community for their assistance in the widespread search.

A post mortem examination is to take place this morning at Loughlinstown Hospital.
