John Hurt and Jason Priestley set to visit Dublin for Jameson film festival

Plus, Wes Anderson’s latest will be amongst the films getting their Irish debut during the festival.

THE STREETS OF Dublin will be the place to be next month when a plethora of stars visits for the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.

For 11 days – from 13 – 23 February – the 12th annual JDIFF will showcase over 135 films, including a number that will receive their Irish premieres.

The home-grown talent is strong, as 17 new Irish feature length films have been selected to screen at the prestigious festival.

One of these is the comedy The Stag – directed by John Butler and starring Peter McDonald, Andrew Scott, Hugh O’Conor and Amy Huberman – which has been announced as the closing gala on Sunday 23 February.

Guests

Among the big names expected at the festival are Hollywood legend Richard Dreyfuss and filmmaker Terry Gilliam.

Plus, we can expect John Hurt, Jason Priestley, Brenda Fricker, James Fox, Jean-Marc Barr, Pollyanna McIntosh, Richard Ayoade, and directors David Mackenzie and Jonathan Glazer.

Here are some of the films we can expect to see at JDIFF:

Irish film Calvary will feature at the opening night gala, while there will be more Irish talent in the documentary Come into the Gardens; Brendan Muldowney’s Love Eternal; Donal Foreman’s Out of Here; Pat Collins’ Living in a Coded Land; and Dominic Harari and Teresa de Pelegri’s The Food Guide to Love.

Plus, the Jameson Cult Film Club will screen Jaws, which of course stars Richard Dreyfuss – who will be taking part in a public interview following the screening. He will also receive this year’s Volta Award alongside Terry Gilliam and Peter Morgan.

Then there are the 19 workshops and events, such as a casting workshop with Lucinda Syson and Margery Simkin; a production workshop with producer Paulo Branco and a screenwriting workshop and writers in conversation.

On Friday 14 February, if you go to Smithfield Square you’ll get to see Hollywood-style effects unfold on the streets – and it’s a free and unticketed event (and might make an unusual Valentine’s Day date…).

Plus, a photo exhibition featuring iconic film images from photographer Susan Wood will be on display at City Assembly House, South William Street, from February 7 – 22, including stills from Easy Rider.

The festival box-office will open from Tuesday 21 January at 10am and tickets can be purchased on www.jdiff.com, in person at FilmBase, Curved Street, Temple Bar, or by phone on 01 687 7974. For more information, see the festival website or its Twitter account.
