AT LEAST JAY LENO found Cowengate amusing.

Host of The Tonight Show on NBC, comedian Jay Leno featured a slot called “Bartender, Politician or Comic” on his show last week.

A photograph of Brian Cowen appeared on the screen and Leno asked the audience to pick one of the three options for the person pictured.

The studio audience cheer widely when Leno reveals, “He’s the prime minister of Ireland!”

According to a thread on Politics.ie, after the show was originally aired last Wednesday, it was repeated twice over the weekend on NBC’s CNBC channel.

Given he was Minister for Finance for the five years up to the time he was “handed a country on its knees”, and a Cabinet minister for twice as long, I don’t think he’s quite as unattached from it all as you make out.

    • I don’t think it’s a big deal Mr Cowen was hung-over while speaking on a radio program, people are just looking for someone to hang over the crises the country is in. I’m not defending the actions of the man I just think people are making a mountain out of a molehill. I can bet you any amount of money there are worse cases of drinking on the job when it comes to the politicians we have in this country. Only last week I read about one been stopped by a Garda getting into a car while drunk and attempting to drive; now to me that is more of an issue. This country has for too long now put up with the bad behaviour of politicians, scandals, and lining their pockets before doing what is right for the country. So don’t just blame Mr Cowen for what he did. Blame the voters for putting them in power, blame the people that don’t vote for not caring who runs the country, and blame us all for putting up with them.

  • pay no mind to all of this Mr Brian Cowen…..he without sin should cast the first stone….there are few Irish who don’t drink and few more that were handed a country on its knees to sort out…..if I had your job I would be drinking a bottle of whiskey for my breakfast….

  • I was tempted to say ‘all publicity is good publicity’, the first time I saw this but as the story grew so did my dismay. Unfortunately, this is not just the persona of Brian Cowen but has implications for each Irish citizen. This man represents us, globally. Is it really the impression we wish to present abroad? Honi soit… and mine’s a large one!
