Jill Meagher accused faces two other assault charges

It is believed one of the charges relates to the rape of a Dutch backpacker in July last year.

THE MAN CHARGED with the murder of Irish woman Jill Meagher in Melbourne, Australia, in October last year has been charged with the alleged rape of two other women.

Adrian Ernest Bayley was charged with the alleged rape and false imprisonments of the women in separate attacks on 5 April and 15 July, Herald Sun reports.

It is understood that the alleged attack in July relates to a Dutch backpacker who was raped in a laneway as she walked home from a pub.

In January Bayley appeared in court for a hearing on a police application that was believed to concern a request by police to interview the man about possible criminal charges. It also concerned examining Bayley for “any possible distinguishing mark” that may be on his body.

A filing hearing on the two new charges in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court is listed for Friday.

Bayley’s two-day committal hearing on the alleged rape and murder of Jill Meagher will take place on 12 and 13 March of this year.
