Looking for work in Cork? 200 new jobs are on the way

HedgeServ already employs over 380 people in Dublin and plans to open a second Irish operation in Cork.

TWO COMPANIES IN CORK have announced the creation of over 200 jobs over the next few years, as Taoiseach Enda Kenny spent the day visiting a number of firms in the county.

Global hedge fund administrator HedgeServ opened its Dublin office in 2008 and now employs over 380 people there. The company has recently recruited over 50 employees in Cork and intends to employ more than 200 “over several years”. The firm did not offer a more specific timeframe for the job creation.

Making the announcement today, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said this is a “positive sign of progress” in the financial services sector.

“This is made possible by our best asset – our people – and I am delighted that we are seeing new opportunities in Cork for our talented, flexible workforce,” he said.

This expansion is supported by the Department of Jobs Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland and its CEO Barry O’Leary said today that it “adds to the reputation of Ireland as a global hub for the hedge fund industry”.

Kenny visited IT solutions firm Westbourne where another expansion was announced, involving 51 jobs.

Commenting at the announcement, he said:

After years of a shrinking economy, skyrocketing unemployment and an exploding deficit we managed to stabilise the economy and begin to turn things around. Today the economy is growing and we have seen over 58,000 new jobs created in the past year.

The Taoiseach also had a meeting planned today with Apple’s CEO Tim Cook who addressed staff at the company’s Hollyhill office.
