WIT aiming to create some 600 jobs for the south-east

NetLabs, a €5 million research building, was officially opened by the Minister for Education today.

A NEW RESEARCH institute at Waterford Institute of Technology is aiming to create some 600 jobs for the south east of the country over the next six years.

NetLabs, a €5 million research building, was officially opened by Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn today.

The Minister said that the research centre was focused on taking ideas from the lab right through to the market place.

He said that WIT had secured more than €130 million in research funding over the past decade, which it had used to create “real job opportunities” in areas such as ICT, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and advanced manufacturing.

NetLabs received some of its funding from the European Regional Development Fund, as well as from the government.
