100 jobs promised at two new motorway service sites

Topaz is opening the service stations on the Dublin-Cork and Dublin-Waterford motorways.

A HUNDRED FULL time jobs will come on stream next year with the creation of two new motorway service stations, it’s planned.

The sites, on the M8 Dublin-Cork road and on the M9 between Dublin and Waterford, are being built by Topaz, which is investing €8 million in the project.

Work on the 600 square metre M8 site near Abbeyleix will begin in January of next year, with work expected to be completed by July 2014.

A planning application has been submitted for the M9 station, close to Carlow — and if successful, work is expected to begin next summer.

Two hundred people will be employed during the construction phase of both sites, according to Topaz, while 50 people will be employed full-time once the two stations are fully operational.

The site in Co Carlow will also include a quick serve restaurant, leading to the creation of an additional 50 jobs.
