Two released in John Kerins murder investigation

A dig on the grounds of former garda’s home and other searches in the area have now concluded.

GARDAÍ HAVE RELEASED the two people arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of former detective garda John Kerins.

The 49-year-old was found dead at his home in Baileboro, Co Cavan in November last year. A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that the two men arrested have now been released without charge and the investigation is ongoing.

Searches in the Baileboro area, including a dig at the home of the former garda, have now also concluded.

Kerins was arrested and questioned over the disappearance of a neighbour, Gerry Daly in 2011 and it is believed he was also suspected of being involved in the drugs trade.

It is understood Kerins was medically discharged from An Garda Síochana a number of years ago and moved to the area. He had served in a number of specialist units in the force throughout his career.
