John Lennon Educational Bus open to Irish public

The bus was launched by Yoko Ono earlier this year and was brought here by the U2-funded Music Generation programme.

A MOBILE RECORDING STUDIO  in honour of the late Beatle John Lennon will be open to the public in Dublin tomorow.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, which contains a state-of-the-art music studio and has hosted performances by the Black-Eyed Peas, is completing a two week tour around Ireland and entered the grounds of the National Concert Hall in Dublin yesterday.

The bus was launched by Yoko Ono in Liverpool earlier this year and was brought here by Ireland’s music education programme, Music Generation. Music Generation is funded by U2 and philanthropic organisation The Ireland Funds and last year gave 10,000 children across the country access to music education in their local area.

For the past two weeks, children involved in the Music Generation initiative have been recording in the Lennon bus as part of summer camps in several areas including Cork and Laois. Three on-board engineers also taught the students about music production techniques and shared expertise on shooting broadcast quality music videos.

Following on from its trek around the country the bus will be open to the public tomorrow before it continues it’s journey around Europe. Rosaleen Molloy, National Director of Music Generation said that seeing the bus in person is a fantastic opportunity for young people interested in music:

It is wonderful to see the young people having the opportunity to put their musical skills into practice on the John Lennon Bus located within the grounds of the National Concert Hall. I have to commend Yoko Ono for mobilising such a wonderful resource for young people as a way in which to create better access to music. Music Generation is continuously looking at new and exciting ways to encourage young people into music education and I can’t think of anything that would capture their imagination more than the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus

The bus will be open to the public from tomorrow from 7.30am -10pm at Essex Street East in Temple Bar.
