THERE’S PLENTY TO see and do over the coming June Bank Holiday Weekend with loads of festivals and events taking place across the country.

The best news of all is Met Éireann has forecast relatively fine weather until Monday – it always happens the weekend before the Leaving Cert!

Anyway, here are five events that will keep you occupied over the weekend:

1. Blooming heck, it’s Bloom in the Park

Over 80,000 people turned out for Bloom in the Park last year and with fine weather forecast for the weekend, organisers anticipate a greater turnout this year. The annual gardening, food and family festival runs for five days until Monday 3 June, across 70 acres in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. Best of all for families, children go free!

2. Sky Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, Kilkenny

Comedians from across the globe return to Kilkenny this weekend for the Cat Laughs Festival where the world premiere of Moone Boy series two will be presented, in the company of its co-writers Chris O’Dowd and Kilkenny native Nick Vincent Murphy. Other comedians to grace the stages include, Kevin Bridges, Dylan Moran and 30 Rock star Judah Friedlander.

Remember, laugh out loud responsibly.

3. Forbidden Fruit, Kilmainham, Dublin

Forbidden Fruit, set at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin, has not one but four stages of great music this year. Taking place on Saturday 1 June until Sunday 2 June, the line-up includes Kasabian, Primal Scream, Everything Everything, Chic, Fight Like Apes, Le Galaxie, James Blake and Crystal Castles. The late-night line-up will include live music and DJ sets.

4. Cork City Marathon

Taking place on Monday, 3 June runners will depart Patrick Street at 9am. Around 10,00 people are expected to take to the streets of Cork running for fitness, fun and their charity of choice. If you don’t like the sound of pounding the pavement, get out a cheer participants on!

5. Let’s go fly a kite…

Dublin Kite Festival takes place this Sunday, 2 June at North Bull Island, Clontarf, Dublin 3 and promises to be a jam packed day of exhilarating fun for all the family. Kicking off at 11am with free entertainment all day long!
