Kate Fitzgerald's father pleads for information about the death of his daughter

Tom Fitzgerald has written in the Sunday Independent that he and his family ‘can’t accept suicide as the only option anymore’.

TOM FITZGERALD, THE father of 25-year-old Kate Fitzgerald who died in August 2011, has said that he and his family must ‘learn to live with a possible murder’.

Fitzgerald and his wife Sally were told that their daughter had died by suicide.

Kate’s story came to light after a piece about depression that she had written was published in the Irish Times after her death, in which she included comments about her former place of work.

Her identity was subsequently revealed and a statement published by the Irish Times which apologised to her former employer, the Communications Clinic for a number of statements made by Fitzgerald, was deemed to be in breach of the Code of Practice for Newspapers and Magazines by the Press Ombudsman.

Tom Fitzgerald has written in today’s Sunday Independent that he believes there may be more to Kate’s death than suicide, and said that the autopsy report received by he and his wife in February of this year indicates that their daughter has an injury to her neck which is “extremely rare in suicidal hanging” and that is a “strong indicator of murder”.

Fitzgerald also wrote in the Sunday Independent that he is in possession of other evidence that is crucial to the case, but that this cannot be discussed because of the Garda investigation.

In June it was reported that a new Garda investigation had been launched into Kate’s death. The new inquiry was reportedly a response to possible suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Tom Fitzgerald has appealed for information from anyone who knows about the death of his daughter.
