KBC Bank to open eight branches and target new customers

The Belgian-owned bank is hoping to attract 10 per cent of the retail banking market with a new current account.

BELGIAN-OWNED BANK KBC is hoping to attract new customers from the likes of AIB and Bank of Ireland with a new current account.

The bank is set to offer a day-to-day account that comes with free online, mobile and point of sale transactions. The account will also offer free ATM and cheque processing, but only if customers maintain a €2,000 daily balance.

AIB, Ulster Bank and Bank of Ireland all recently upped their fees for those who don’t meet certain criteria every month.

KBC will also open eight new “banking hubs” over the next 18 months, though it has not revealed where these will be beyond upcoming openings in Limerick and Galway.

John Reynolds, Chief Executive, KBC Bank Ireland said that the bank hoped to offer an alternative for customers.

“Consumers are now getting to know us as a bank with new and attractive retail products and expert, personalised customer service. We also plan to open eight more banking hubs nationwide over the next 18 months, starting with Limerick next week and Galway in October.”
